Boy Scout Troop 215
We, the members of Boy Scout Troop 215,
would like to thank Fairmont Presbyterian Church for their many
years of service and support of our Troop. Unfortunately, this
Troop has reached a time in its life where the last of the youth in
the Troop have turned 18 and have become young adults in the
Scouting program. It has been a great honor to have served as
the Scoutmaster for this troop since 1992 when you of Fairmont
Presbyterian Church called upon me to fulfill that role.
Throughout my tenure as Scoutmaster, I have been blessed with many a
great young man who has stepped from his inner shell to show his
greatness. From James, my first Eagle Scout, who was the only
boy that stayed behind during some turbulence to help begin
rebuilding the troop; to Kurt, our supreme fire builder; to Jonathan
and Eric, Eagle Scouts both and gentle giants; to Daniel, a cardiac
Eagle Scout, for encouraging thought and planning into excursions
into the unknown; to Kyle, who sought a baton twirling merit badge;
to Matt, who came to us from another unit to lend his leadership
skills and to become my fifth Eagle; to Glenn, our "noisiest" Eagle
Scout; to Louis and Alex, racing to that final day to finish their
paperwork giving their Scoutmaster and families lots of grey hair
from worry.
We have done many activities appropriate for our size to include
camping in Adams County, caving in Mammoth Caves Kentucky,
tobogganing at Pokagon State Park, camping at Cricket Holler and
Woodland Trails Scout Camps, hiking, canoeing, helping at Halloween
activities, supporting blood drives, helping Scout Sunday activities
at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, and many other little activities
that helped the boys to grow and demonstrate their leadership.
What these boys have achieved along the way and what I have seen
grow in them, remind me of the parting comment in many a Mastercard®
commercial (paraphrased) - "Being able to share this with them -
PRICELESS." To the leadership and members of Fairmont
Presbyterian Church, thank you for giving me this opportunity and
allowing me to serve the youth of the church and community through
the Scouting program.
Parents, I encourage you to visit the
Miami Valley Council website
to learn more about Scouting opportunities in this area and to
encourage your son(s) and daughter(s) to join the Scouting program
to grow in citizenship, leadership, and physical fitness.
